Seven residents in seven condominiums were evacuated, Hillsborough Fire Rescue said.

SUN CITY – A late night ceiling collapse left seven residents in a retirement community without homes, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

A total of seven residents in seven condos in one building were evacuated. It is unclear how long residents will be unable to live in their condos at the Aston Gardens Retirement Community in Sun City. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to Aston Gardens about midnight Wednesday (June 14). When they arrived, they found four condominiums with damaged ceilings. Firefighters evacuated the entire building and continued their investigation.

A contractor has been working on the roof of the building, and Wednesday evening’s storms lead to water entering the attic, firefighters said. The rain water saturated insulation and the drywall ceiling of the four units causing the drywall to collapse. Firefighters evacuated three other condo units inside the building were evacuated out of caution.
