Neither the cause of death nor cause of the fire has been determined.

TAMPA – Officials are investigating after a body was found in a fire Saturday (Jan. 19) at a Tampa apartment complex.

Neither the cause of death nor the cause of the fire has been determined. The deceased has not been identified, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s deputies, the state fire marshal and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue are investigating.

The fire at the St. James Crossing Apartments,  5536 Tranquility Drive off Gunn Highway in the Citrus Park area of Tampa, broke out about 8:30 p.m.

Hillsborough firefighters said they arrived to find heavy flames and smoke affecting at least three apartments in the two-story buildings and in the shared attic area above them. It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, and a second alarm was called because of the severity of the flames and connected nature of the multiple apartments.

As many as six units were affected by fire or water damage and the Red Cross was called out to help displaced residents.
