Baby Dies in Hillsborough Mobile Home Fire

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – A 9-month-old baby died Wednesday (May 31) in a mobile home fire, Hillsborough County public safety officials said.

The baby boy’s name was not released pending positive identification. His great-grandmother, Barbara Weidman, 67, was able to escape from the home. Hillsborough sheriff’s deputies said the baby’s mother, Deziray Weidman, 17, was not home at the time.

Hillsborough firefighters were called to the mobile home on Marc Drive in Tampa about 6:10 p.m.When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the residence. Firefighters were told an infant still inside the home. Firefighters started their initial fire attack  and began searching for the baby who was found inside the home.

Hillsborough County fire Investigators, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the state Fire Marshals office are investigating the cause of the fire.
