Baby, 9 Months, Dies After Being Left in Hot Car

It is unknown at this time how long the infant had been in the car, Hernando sheriff’s deputies said.

SPRING HILL – A 9-month-old baby died today (Aug. 17) of injuries he received after being left in a hot car, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

Keyton O’Callaghan, 9 months, died at Oak Hill Hospital where he was taken in critical condition after he was found.

Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies and Hernando County Fire Rescue were dispatched to Elgin Boulevard in Spring Hill about 11:16 a.m. after 9-1-1 operators received a call of an infant who had just been removed from a hot car.

During the 9-1-1 call, someone on scene was providing CPR to the baby. Upon arrival, deputies and fire rescue immediately began rendering aid to the child and took him to the hospital.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation indicates that Keyton had been in the care of his mother, Cami Lee Moyer, 38, since last night.

Keyton was found in the driveway in the car by the his father, Eric O’Callaghan, 32, just before the 9-1-1 call was placed this morning. O’Callaghan performed CPR on the infant until fire rescue arrived and took over.

It is unknown, at this time, how long Keyton had been in the car. Sheriff’s detectives said they are still working to establish a chronological timeline of events and are interviwing Moyer.
