TAMPA – The arson force is investigating a house fire after a dead man was found in the home.

Rafael Sotto Gonzalez, 44, of 2903 N 16th St., was found lying on the floor inside his home after the fire, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Tampa Fire Rescue said firefighters were called to the home about 10:20 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 9). When they arrived, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the north (left) side of the single-story wood frame structure. Firefighters entered the home and began putting water on the fire while others searched the house. Mr. Gonzalez was found dead in the home. The fire was under control by 10:34.

The arson task force was notified, which is standard protocol whenever there is a fatality at a fire scene. The arson task force is made up of representatives from the Tampa fire marshal’s office, Tampa police department, ATF, state fire marshal’s office and the state attorney’s office. Both the cause of death and the cause of the fire are being looked into.
