The drowning appears to be accidental, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

SEMINOLE – A 7-year-old autistic boy downed Saturday (July 8) after wandering away from home, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Artemio Shkulaku, 7, died at Largo Medical Center where he was taken after he was found. His death appears to be accidental, deputies said.

The incident happened about 8:17 p.m. at a home on 95th Terrace in the unincorporated Seminole area. Deputies said Artemio was home with his father, Agron Shkulaku, 38; his mother , Dangela Shkulaku, 33; and grandmother. Artemio apparently sneaked out of his home through a side door while his father was working on the opposite side of the house..

Artemio’s grandmother told the child’s parents that he was missing. Mr. and Mrs. Shkulaku and neighbors went looking for him and notified deputies about 30 minutes later. Deputies said there was apparently a language barrier that contributed to the delay in notifying deputies that the boy was missing.

Neighbors found Artemio lying face down in a residential pool at a home directly across the street from the child’s residence. Neighbors pulled Artemio from the water and performed CPR until deputies and Seminole Fire Rescue took over.

Artemio was unresponsive and taken to Largo Medical Center.
