A rally Sunday (Jan. 21) will feature U.S. Reps. Kathy Castor and Charlie Crist as well as St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Council Member Darden Rice and DREAMERS.

ST. PETERSBURG – A year ago, more than 20,000 protestors flooded downtown streets in St. Petersburg as a vocal, visual rejection of President Donald Trump and his policies.

It was the largest such event in St. Pete’s history.

Now, a year later, on the anniversary of that record-breaking event, the Women’s March is planning a day of action. It will be one of at least four such events across Florida. Women’s March activists in Miami, Jacksonville and Orlando are also planning similar events.

The St. Pete event is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 21) at Williams Park, 350 Second Ave. N in St. Pete. The event is designed in part to help get activists fired up for 2018 – a mid-term election year with municipal, state, and federal offices up for grabs. With that in mind, the overall theme of the event – empowering political action – can be summed up in the catch phrase “In 2017 we marched! In 2018 we act!”

Sunday’s event, which is co-sponsored by Indivisble FL-13, will have many different groups representing a variety of issues.

Speakers will include U.S. Reps. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, and Charlie Crist, D-St. Petersburg, as well as St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Council Member Darden Rice and Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin. Additional speakers: FIREE Sharon Graham, Women’s March, Jayne Arrington, Chris King, DREAMERS, and Geri X.

Music will be provided by the Social Justice choir. There will be organizations who can help guide those who want to get involved in the important issues of 2018.

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and lunch for an amazing time to socialize, become active, make a sign, use the photo booth.
