HERNANDO COUNTY – After being deployed for more than a year by the U.S. Navy, county Commissioner Jeff Holcomb has returned home to Hernando County.

He will resume his role as county commissioner June 28.

“It was an honor to serve overseas, but I am very happy to be home with my family again,” Holcomb said. “I look forward to resuming my elected role as commissioner and serving the citizens of Hernando County.”

Holcomb said he plans to catch up quickly with government business by observing upcoming workshop and commission meetings before returning to his seat.

Holcomb was elected to the county commission in November 2014. He served as second vice chairman during his first year of office. Commissioner John Mitten has served during Holcomb’s military leave of absence.

Holcomb serves as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and completed 11 years of service in January.  In 2016, Holcomb was called to active duty to fight ISIS in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria and Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan. He also served on the Master Air Attack Plan team in the Combat Plans Division of the Air Operations Center in Southwest Asia.

Holcomb is a lead senior software consultant for FIS Wealth Management Systems and has been employed there for 16 years.
