Jemele Hill will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting and community talk back hosted by the St. Petersburg Area League of Women Voters.

ST. PETERSBURG – The St. Petersburg Area League of Women Voters is inviting the community to join in a conversation on using on using one’s voice and action to make a positive change for democracy.

The event will feature chief correspondent and senior columnist for ESPN’s The Undefeated, Jemele Hill, one of the most influential voices in sports media. Hill will share her views on race, gender, sports, and politics and how she has used her unique platform to give voice to a generation. Hill regularly appears on ESPN platforms and programs to offer her perspective and commentary.

“Ms. Hill’s comments elevated the national debate about the role of the media, freedom of expression, personal responsibility, and civility in political discourse,” said League President Julie Kessel MD, “In this way, she is making democracy work.”

Hill said, “It’s important to reinforce that having a voice in our democracy is a basic right guaranteed to all citizens, regardless of income, race, gender, or profession. I’m thrilled to exchange and share ideas with the thought leaders and activists in St. Pete, who have led the way in having these important conversations about inclusive voices.”

The League focuses on good government issues and increasing voter engagement. This year, members will raise the level of empowering voters and defending democracy by supporting youth civic leaders, growing grassroots advocacy, fighting voter suppression, and educating voters on election issues that impact their communities to provide a foundation for their candidate choices at the polls.
