Ryan Torrens is running for state attorney general. R. David Walker is campaigning to be the next agriculture commissioner.
TRINITY – Ryan Torrens and R. David Walker, two candidates for statewide office, will be the featured speakers at this month’s meeting of the Trinity Democratic Club.
Torrens is one of six candidates running for Florida Attorney General. Walker is one of six running for commissioner of agriculture. Both candidates are fifth-generation Floridians who say they care deeply about this state, its citizens and its future.
The meeting starts at 6:30 pm at Fox Hollow Golf Club, 10050 Robert Trent Jones Parkway in Trinity. Doors open at 5 p.m. for dinner and happy hour (self-pay) with food and beverages available for purchase throughout the meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
Torrens is a Tampa native who defends consumer clients against mortgage foreclosure actions and also represents against creditors and debt collectors for collection violations. Before opening his own law practice in 2012, Torrens worked as an independent consultant on the federal government-mandated Independent Foreclosure Review Project, where he was charged with reviewing toxic mortgage loans.
“I am running to be your lawyer, the people’s lawyer. I have taken a commitment to refuse any contributions from Wall Street for this reason. How much justice you get should not depend on how much money you have. I will not hesitate to stand up to the special interests and to enforce our laws against any violators, whether it be an an individual criminal or a wealthy corporation,” Torrens said.
Walker was born in Plant City. His father was a firefighter and his mother was a schoolteacher. Walker said he believes in protecting our natural resources and growing Florida.
He is running fore Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services because of policy changes that, Walker said, are detrimental to the environment by leading to pollution, discouraging renewable energy, and accelerating climate change to benefit big businesses and the fossil fuel industry.
If elected, Walker said he will work to bolster the commitment to conserve Florida’s natural resources, public land, clean water, high food and nutrient standards, and grow our agriculture and aquaculture industries. He also pledged to encourage clean, renewable energy sources, protect consumers, and grow local businesses and the economy.
The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
