Ed Taylor has served on the Pinellas Park City Council since March 1998.

PINELLAS PARK – Twenty-year City Council member Ed Taylor will not be running in Pinellas Park’s 2018 election.

His seat, along with that of Mayor Sandra Bradbury and council member Patricia Johnson, will be up for grabs in the March 13 election. The qualifying period for candidates opened Monday (Oct. 30) and closes at 1 p.m. closes Nov. 14.

“Twenty years has been enough,” Taylor said.

Bradbury, Johnson, and Keith V. Sabiel have appointed campaign treasurers, a first step toward becoming an official candidate. Sabiel is running for Taylor’s seat. He ran against Bradbury for mayor in 2016 and against Johnson in 2014. Both runs were unsuccessful.

Taylor was first elected in 1998 and has served on the council since. He said is most proud of the work he contributed to improving drainage on Park Boulevard. S

Asked the most difficult part of his time on the council, he said: “Probably dealing with people, or groups of people, that are against everything. There (are) a lot of people in our society who
feel whatever it is, they’re against it. You still have to come up with a consensus and move forward.”

Taylor said he plans to continue operating his funeral home and “enjoy the many accomplishments of our city.”

As for advice to his successor:

“Keep an open mind. Listen to your city attorney,” Taylor said.

Pinellas Park is located in mid-Pinellas County. It has a council-manager form of government in which a mayor and four council members set policy and pass a budget. A city manager oversees the daily activities of the city. The mayor and council members serve two-year terms. They generally meet at least twice a month. The non-partisan seats are voted on citywide. The mayor is paid about $22,507 annually. Council members earn about $19,506 per year. The election is March 13.
