Andrew Learned is running for U.S. House District 15, which extends from west Tampa to Orlando along the I-4 corridor.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Alex Sink, Florida’s former chief financial officer, has endorsed Andrew Learned in the race for U.S. House District 15.

Sink notified supporters of her endorsement in a Friday (March 16) email titled “Let’s Turn My Home District Blue!”:

Learned, a Democrat, was born in Sarasota, grew up in Valrico, and graduated from Fort Myers High School before enrolling at the University of Tampa where he studied economics, government and world affairs and took part in the Navy ROTC program. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for four years on active duty and remains an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve with Special Operation Command Central’s reserve unit at MacDill AFB. He lives in Valrico and owns the Valrico Learning Center.

The District 15 seat is currently held by Republican Dennis Ross. The district stretches from west Tampa to Orlando along the I-4 corridor and includes Brandon, Lakeland, Plant City, Temple Terrace, Progress Village, Clermont and Valrico.

Learned is one of six Democrats running for the seat. The other Democrats who have announced are Cameron Magnuson, Raymond Pena Jr., James Gregory Pilkington, Jeffrey Rabinowitz and Greg Williams. Republicans running for the seat are Ross, Loretta “Leah Lax” Miller and Curtis Ralph Rogers.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
