Jennifer Webb is running for the District 69 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

GULFPORT – The Suncoast Group of the Sierra Club has endorsed Jennifer Webb in her race to be elected to the Florida House of Representatives seat for District 69.

“We are very pleased to endorse Jennifer Webb, who has proven herself to be a strong advocate for the environment, public health, and our communities,” said Dan Huber, Sierra Club spokesperson. “Her experience, knowledge and dedication to environmental issues makes us confident that she will help move the state towards a renewable energy future that promotes economic growth while ensuring access to clean air and clean water for all.”

The group said Webb has an impressive track record of working in both the public and private sectors. She has worked as an environmental campaign organizer for the Massachusetts Public Interest Research Group. She was formerly the director of Community Partnerships at the University of South Florida where she developed public-private collaborations to address issues including education, hunger, crime, and transportation. She is an outspoken critic of environmentally disastrous practices like “fracking,” and now works as a freelance business consultant for companies in the energy efficiency and mass transit sectors.

Webb demonstrates the potential that exists for the blending of entrepreneurial spirit with environmental advocacy, the group said. She firmly believes in the rights of local government and has a history of progressive advocacy. Webb has clearly demonstrated that she deserves to be elected to the state legislature.

Webb, a Democrat, is running for the HD 69 seat currently held by Republican Kathleen Peters who is running for the Pinellas County Commission. HD 69 includes Gulfport, South Pasadena, Kenneth City, the south beach communities from Redington Shores to Tierra Verde and portions of St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park and the unincorporated Lealman area.

Webb is unopposed in the Aug. 28 Democratic primary. She will face the winner of the Republican primary in the Nov. 6 general election.
