ST. PETERSBURG – Pinellas County School Board Member Rene Flowers has endorsed Gina Driscoll in the St. Petersburg City Council District 6 race.

“Ms. Driscoll is taking the time to listen to the concerns from residents of the entire city,” Flowers said Thursday (Oct. 12). “She has the ability to communicate effectively with those of opposing as well as like-minded viewpoints, she has expressed a sincere desire to work hand in hand with organizations focused on expanding the reach of opportunity city wide, she supports the concept of Climate Change, and she supports the efforts currently in progress as well as those yet to come regarding an educational partnership for our students.”

Driscoll said, “I’m so thankful for School Board Member Flowers’ endorsement. Increasing before- and after-school programs, mentorship programs, and summer programs will be among my top priorities when I’m on city council. Each one of our students in St. Petersburg deserves a quality education, no matter where they live.”

Driscoll is running for the District 6 seat, which is currently held by Karl Nurse who is terming out. She is opposed by Justin Bean, another first-time candidate in the Nov. 7 general election. Candidates are running citywide for numbered seats.

Flowers’ complete endorsement:

“Exciting and difficult times are ahead of the city of St. Petersburg and as such, the need for strong and thoughtful leadership is required.

“Over the past few months, the voters have had a chance to listen to the candidates and determine who best represents the district as well as the city. The ability to communicate not just with the other members of council, but the staff and the community is paramount.

“The understanding of business acumen, the historic value of minority communities, understanding true economic development evolving from small business and other entrepreneur interests and the drive towards hiring local are all conditions of which I am especially driven to in this race.

“As this race has opened city wide for the General Election, I have had the chance to hear from both candidates. The race was long and hard- filled initially with some very strong candidates with ideas that would certainly propel this city through to the next level. However, of the candidates remaining, I , Rene Flowers, am choosing to endorse Ms, Gina Driscoll in the District 6 City Council race.

“Ms. Driscoll is taking the time to listen to the concerns from residents of the entire city, she has the ability to communicate effectively with those of opposing as well as like-minded viewpoints, she has expressed a sincere desire to work hand in hand with organizations focused on expanding the reach of opportunity city wide , she supports the concept of Climate Change, and she supports the efforts currently in progress as well as those yet to come regarding an educational partnership for our students.

“On or before Nov. 7, cast your ballot for Gina Driscoll- I know that I will!”
