The mayor and two commission seats are up for election in March.

TREASURE ISLAND – Six candidates are running for three open positions on the Treasure Island City Commission.

In the race for mayor, District 2 Commissioner Larry Lunn, who is serving as vice mayor, is running against real estate agent Melinda “Mel” Lenehan. The current mayor, Robert Minning, is not seeking reelection.

In the race for the District 2 seat on the commission, Tyler Payne is facing off against Jim Buchyn. And in the District 4 race, incumbent Ken Keys is facing a challenge from Heidi Horak.

Treasure Island is a commission-manager form of government. A five-member commission consisting of the mayor and four commisisoners set policy, pass a budget and are responsible for hiring a city manager, city clerk and city attorney. The city manager oversees the daily activities of the city.

The mayor is elected citywide and serves for three years. The mayor earns about $7,800 a year. Commission members are elected by voters within a district. Commissioners serve two-year terms and are paid $5,400 annually.

The nonpartisan election is March 13.
