Darden Rice is running for reelection to the District 4 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

ST. PETERSBURG – Darden Rice today (Sept. 26) released her first TV advertisement for the General Election.

In the ad, Rice talks about St. Petersburg’s resiliency during Hurricane Irma and the hard work the city’s first responders put into making sure everyone stayed safe.

Rice also highlights the work she is doing on City Council, including fixing the city’s infrastructure, protecting the environment, and ensuring that the efforts of first responders are fully funded.

“I am grateful to my supporters who helped make this ad happen,” Rice said. “Our city is stronger when we stand together, and I look forward to sharing that message with the voters.”

Rice received her BA in American Studies from Eckerd College in 2000, graduating with distinction. She also completed the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Leadership Program in July 2014.

She has more than 15 years’ experience in working for national, state, and local organizations in communications and issue-based advocacy campaigns for the public interest. Those issues include promoting access to affordable, quality healthcare; taking the bias out of medicine; defending voting rights by fighting unfair voter suppression laws; protecting clean water; and promoting clean energy.

Rice is running for her second term in the District 4 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council. She is facing a challenge by first-time candidate Jerick Johnston.

The St. Petersburg council has eight members who are responsible for setting policy and a budget. St. Petersburg council members serve four-year terms and earn $44,452 annually. The nonpartisan election is Nov. 7. Although candidates run from districts in which they live, all voters can cast ballots for council candidates in the General Election. The last day to register to vote in the election is Oct. 10. For information about registration and voting, go to votepinellas.com.
