Rice Endorses Driscoll

Chair Darden Rice has endorsed Gina Driscoll in the race for the District 6 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

ST. PETERSBURG – City Council Chair Darden Rice today (Oct. 3) announced her endorsement of Gina Driscoll, who is running for the District 6 seat on the St. Petersburg council.

“I trust Gina with my confident endorsement for city council because she is a proven leader and consensus builder,” Rice said. “District 6 needs an open-hearted and open-minded leader who listens, and Gina is genuinely committed to making St. Pete an even more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone. She is an honest and capable leader who will be an asset for St. Petersburg on day one.”

Driscoll said, “I’m so honored to have the support of Council Chair Rice. She has been a dedicated advocate for our city even before she joined council, and has been the driving force behind so many of our biggest accomplishments, including curbside recycling and the Wage Theft Prevention ordinance. I’m excited to work with her once I join council to keep our city moving in the right direction.”

Rice and Driscoll are scheduled to hold a coordinated canvass and phone bank from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 8), at 2250 First Ave. N. Rice is running for reelection to the District 4 seat. Her opponent is Jerick Johnston.

Driscoll is running for the District 6 seat held by Karl Nurse, who is terming out of office. Nurse and Council Member Charlie Gerdes have also endorsed her.

She is facing Justin Bean, another first-time candidate in the Nov. 7 general election. Candidates are running citywide for numbered seats.

Mail ballots are scheduled to be sent today (Oct. 3). The last day to request a mail ballot is 5 p.m. Nov. 1.

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 7 general election is Oct. 10. All new voter registration applications received by mail must be postmarked by Oct. 10 to be valid for the Nov. 7 county referendum and St. Petersburg general election. Voters who are already registered to vote in Florida do not need to re-register but can update their voter registration information.
