Darden Rice is running for a second term in the District 4 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

ST. PETERSBURG – Fifteen community leaders have thrown their support behind Darden Rice in her reelection bid for the St. Petersburg City Council.

Rice is running for her second term in the District 4 seat. The 15 endorsements come, she said, from 11 neighborhoods in her district. They are Marlene Murray, Lee Palmer, Alisha Ford, Jack Spinrad, Scott Willis, Cathy Wilson, Thomas Paterek, James Keane, Jason and Megan Kotsko, Lisset and Wayne Hanewicz, Kristen Noakes-Fry, Peter Motzenbecker, and Phil Peyton.

“I’m proud to support Darden Rice because I know she truly cares about our neighborhoods,” Marlene Murray said. “She takes the time to come to meetings to engage with residents and listens to our concerns. We need Darden’s leadership on City Council for the next four years so we continue the progress we’ve made in our neighborhoods and our city.

Motzenbecker said, “Darden knows how to roll up her sleeves and put in the hard work to get things done. When our neighborhoods need help, Darden is my first phone call. We always know that we can count on her to find fair solutions to any issues we face. We can always count on her to do what’s right.”

Rice said, “I’m honored to have the support of my district neighborhood and community leaders. Our neighborhoods are a unique part of what make St. Petersburg so special. These individuals work hard to make positive change one block at a time and it shows. I am excited to continue working with them to continue our progress.”

Rice has also been endorsed by former Governor and Congressman Charlie Crist, Congresswoman Kathy Castor, and Congresswoman and gubernatorial candidate Gwen Graham. The West Central Florida Labor Council, SEIU, Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association, St. Petersburg Association of Fire Fighters, Sierra Club, and Florida Conservation Voters are also supporting her re-election.

Qualifying for the non-partisan St. Petersburg municipal election starts at 8 a.m. Thursday (June 8) and closes at 5 p.m. June 23. The primary is Aug. 29 and the general election is Nov. 7.

Jerick Johnston has announced he also plans to seek the District 4 seat.
