Only four votes separate Terry Lister and Deby Weinstein in the race for District 1 on the Madeira Beach City Commission.

MADEIRA BEACH – An automatic recount was triggered in the race for the District 1 seat on the Madeira Beach City Commission when less than a half a percentage point separated the two candidates.

The machine and manual recounts are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday (March 16) at the election service enter for the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections, 13001 Starkey Road in Largo. Florida law requires an automatic recount when one-half percent or less separates the candidates.

The recounts will determine whether incumbent Terry Lister remains in office or challenger Deby Weinstein takes the seat. According to unofficial results from the elections office, Weinstein is winning with 599 votes, or 50.17 percent, to Lister’s 595 votes, or 49.83 percent.

Madeira Beach commissioners are elected citywide in nonpartisan elections. They serve two-year terms and are paid about $7,500 a year.
