ST. PETERSBURG – Gina Driscoll, president of the St. Petersburg Downtown Neighborhood Association, announced that she is running for the District 6 seat on the City Council.

The seat is currently held by Karl Nurse, who is term-limited.

“I’m running because I want to continue my service to our community. I’ve been working for years to improve our neighborhoods and the business climate in St. Petersburg. Now, I want to do more to serve our city and make it an even better place to live, work, and play,” Driscoll said.

In addition to being president of the St. Petersburg Downtown Neighborhood Association, Driscoll is on the board of the Downtown Business Association, serves on the Organizational Committee of the Central Avenue Council, and is a member of the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. She works at the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown on Beach Drive.

“Over the next few months, I’ll be listening to voters about the issues and concerns they have and working with them to create solutions that are effective and efficient. I truly believe that a rising tide should lift all boats and that when there is success in our city we should all share in it,” Driscoll said.

Qualifying for the nonpartisan St. Petersburg election opens at 8 a.m. June 8 and closes 5p.m. June 23. The primary is Aug. 29 and the general election is Nov. 7.

Thus far, eight people including Driscoll have announced their candidacy for the District 6 seat: Justin Bean, Eritha”Akile” Cainion, Jim Jackson, Corey Givens Jr., Sharon Russ, James Scott and Maria Scruggs. John Johnson withdrew from the race in late April.
