Police Union Endorses Thomas for Clearwater Council

Scott Thomas is running for Seat 3 on the Clearwater City Council.

CLEARWATER – The Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No.10 has endorsed Scott Thomas for Seat 3 on the Clearwater City Council.

“Mr. Thomas brings a young, vibrant, and energetic vision for the city of Clearwater. His vision entails making Clearwater a better place to live, work and raise a family. One of Mr. Thomas’s top priorities is public safety,” said FOP President Steven Squillante.

Squillante added, “Although the youngest candidate running, Scott Thomas has proven himself as a visionary and no stranger to city government.”

Thomas said, “I am pleased and honored to receive the endorsement of those who put their lives on the line each day to protect the residents of our great city. I am thankful for the service they provide and will continue to ensure they have the resources they need to keep our community safe.”

The Clearwater FOP has more than 360 employees. Out of those 360 employees, 240 are sworn law enforcement officers who serve the residents of the city.

Before relocating to Florida, Thomas was elected to two terms on the Pottsville [PA] Area School Board where he served as vice president of the unpaid board. He also served in other leadership capacities within his community, inclujding president of his church council of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville. Now he attends services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Clearwater.

Thomas is one of four candidates running for Seat 3 on the Clearwater council in the March 17 election. The others are incumbent Dr. Bob Cundiff, Kathleen Beckman and Bud Elias.

Clearwater is the second largest city in Pinellas County. Clearwater has a council-manager form of government under which a five-member council sets policy; passes a budget; and is responsible for hiring, firing and overseeing a city manager and city attorney. The city manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the city and for executing council policies. The city has a budget of about half a billion dollars.

Clearwater council members are elected at large in a non-partisan election to serve four-year terms. The last day to register to be able to vote in the March 17 election is Feb. 18.
