Kathleen Peters is running for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

SOUTH PASADENA – The Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Kathleen Peters for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

“The members of the Fraternal Order of Police have confidence in Kathleen Peters to protect the public and support first responders,” said Tom Porter, FOP director, District 3 Lodge.

Peters said she was honored by the FOP’s support.

“Having the support of the Fraternal Order of Police is an incredible privilege – these are the men and women who protect our communities every day,” Peters said. “Their confidence in my candidacy is a great honor that I will carry with me in service to Pinellas County.”

This is the second police union to endorse Peters. Earlier this year, the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association also endorsed her. (See related story.)

Peters, a former South Pasadena mayor, is the District 69 representative in the Florida House of Representatives where she serves on the commerce committee, ways and means, government operations and technology appropriations subcommittee, and serves as chair for the energy and utilities committee.

Peters is one of three Republicans running for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas commission. The others are outgoing state Rep. Larry Ahern and civic activist Barb Haselden. The winner of the Aug. 28 primary will face Democrat Amy Kedron in the Nov. 6 general election.

District 6 is a single-member district meaning only those voters who live in it are able to vote for the candidate. District 6 includes northeast St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Seminole, and the southern beach communities of Redington Shores, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach and Tierra Verde.

The primary election is Aug. 28.
