ST. PETERSBURG – The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 43 has endorsed Brandi Gabbard for the District 2 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

This makes the second police endorsement for Gabbard. The Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association has also endorsed her.

“I’m honored to announce that the Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge 43 is endorsing Brandi Gabbard. As candidate for District 2, I find no other candidate better suited for this position. Talking with her about the past, current, and future of the city of St. Petersburg Police Department, I find she has a clear view for moving forward. Her commitment to public safety is rational and progressive in order to keep the citizens safe. I look forward to working with Brandi on public safety in the future,” FOP President Douglas Weaver said.

Gabbard said, “With public safety concerns being top of mind for voters in St Petersburg, it is my honor to have such a strong relationship with our police officers. I look forward to working alongside of them to support the needs or our officers as they continue their commitment to keep our residents safe.”

Gabbard has also been endorsed by Council member Amy Foster; state Rep.Wengay Newton, D-St. Petersburg, a former council member; former Council member Bill Dudley; the Pinellas Realtor Organization; and the St Petersburg Association of Firefighters Local 747.

Gabbard has been actively involved in the community since she and her family relocated to St Petersburg more than 13 years ago. A real estate broker with Smith and Associates Real Estate, she has served for more than a decade in leadership with the state, local and national real estate associations. Most notably, she was chair of the Board of the Pinellas Realtors® Organization in 2014 and was awarded Realtor® of the Year in 2015.

She testified before the governor and his cabinet in 2013 regarding the effects of flood insurance. That led to her current position as vice chair of the National Association of Realtors® Insurance Committee.

Gabbard serves as vice president of the Barcley Estates Homeowners Association. She is a member of the city of St. Petersburg Program for Public Information Task Force on Flood Insurance and is a member of the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce’s Public Policy Committee and its Transportation Task Force.

The District 2 seat is currently held by Jim Kennedy, who is terming out of office. Gabbard is facing Barclay Harless in the Nov. 7 general election. St. Petersburg council members serve four-year terms and earn $44,452 annually.
