TARPON SPRINGS – The Pinellas County Teachers Association has thrown its support behind Jeff Larsen in his run for the District 2 at-large seat on the Pinellas County School Board.

“Jeff’s experience as a father, husband, educator, coach, and vice mayor have prepared him to lead and give our children the best opportunity for a lifetime of success,” said Mike Gandolfo, president of the Pinellas County Teachers Association. “Pinellas parents and students deserve an advocate who will always stand for safer schools, strong curriculum, and the right of every child to receive a great free public school education right here in Pinellas.”

Larsen said, “Every day I have the honor to work with teachers and parents coming together to improve our education system. Having the endorsement of our Pinellas teachers is truly humbling because I know how hard they work for our kids. This campaign is about doing more for our children and giving them the best opportunity to succeed. I look forward to working with our teachers and our whole community to make that vision a reality.”

Larsen has served as a commissioner and vice mayor of Tarpon Springs for the past six years and volunteered his time on the Tarpon Springs Planning and Zoning Board before that.

Larsen is a reading teacher and has also coached youth basketball for the last 14 years at Gulf Middle School in New Port Richey. He has also served in various leadership roles such as department head for the GMS Dropout Prevention Program, professional learning community facilitator for the reading department, and worked on curriculum development for Pasco County Schools

Larsen is running for the District 2 at-large seat, which is voted on countywide. Other announced candidates in the District 2 race are Lisa Nicole Cane, Terry Benjamin Krassner and David H. Schneck. Emmanuel Swift has withdrawn from the race.
