State Rep. Kathleen Peters has announced she is running for the Pinellas County Commission.

PINELLAS COUNTY – State Rep. Kathleen Peters has scheduled a fundraiser to finance her run for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

Peters is running for the seat currently held by fellow Republican John Morroni, who is not seeking reelection.

Peters’ fundraiser is 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at Cafe Pont, 13505 Icot Blvd., Suite 214. Among members of the host committee are state Sen, Jack Latvala, state Rep. Chris Latvala, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters, Seminole Councilmember Jim Quinn, and Pinellas Park Councilmembers Patti Johnson, Rick Butler and Jerry Mullins.

Peters is a Treasure Island resident who was elected to the House District 69 seat in 2012 and reelected in 2016. She is a former council member and mayor of South Pasadena. She has four children and four grandchildren.

The Pinellas County Commission has seven members. Three live in districts, but are elected at large. The other four live in single-member districts and are elected by voters who live in that district. District 6 is a single-member district that includes the south beaches, Seminole, Pinellas Park, a portion of St. Petersburg and unincorporated Pinellas.

State Rep. Larry Ahern and community activist Barb Haselden have also announced they will run for the seat. All three are Republicans. The election is Nov. 6, 2018.
