Peters Fundraiser Set Tonight

Kathleen Peters is running for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

SOUTH PASADENA – A fundraiser is scheduled tonight (May 22) for Kathleen Peters, a candidate for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

The winetasting fundraiser is sponsored by South Pasadena Mayor Max Elson and South Pasadena Commissioner Gail Neidinger. It is 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Pasadena Liquors & Fine Wines, 1100 Pasadena Ave. S. RSVP to ashley@kathleenpeters.com.

Peters moved to Pinellas County in 1985. She received her BA degree from Eckerd College majoring in Human Development. She currently servies in the Florida House of Representatives. She serves on the Commerce Committee, Ways and Means, Government Operations and Technology Appropriations Subcommittee, and serves as Chair for the Energy and Utilities Committee.

In 2015, Peters was awarded the “Legislative Champion” from Florida Partners in Crisis and the Florida Sheriffs Association. She was also named “Legislator of the Year” by the Osteopathic Medical Society, the Suncoast League of Cities, and the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. For her work on homelessness and on mental health, she was named the Florida Housing Coalition’s “Housing Champion”, and received the M.A. Bernstein Award for Mental Health Awareness. Peters received recognition from the Suncoast Center for her legislative work in mental health. She is a past member of the Advisory Board for the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center, and currently serves on the board of directors for the Central Florida Behavioral Health Network.

Peters, a Republican, is running for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission, which was held by John Morroni. District 6 includes a portion of St. Petersburg as well as the cities of Pinellas Park, Seminole and south Pinellas beaches from Redington Shores south to St. Pete Beach.

Peters is one of three Republicans running for the seat. The others are state Rep. Larry Ahern and community activist Barb Haselden. Democrat Amy Kedron is also running for the seat.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
