Pasco School Superintendent Endorses Bilirakis
Gus Bilirakis is running for reelection to the Florida District 12 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
NEW PORT RICHEY – U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis has received the endorsement of Pasco County Superintendent of Schools Kurt Browning in his reelection bid to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Like Bilirakis, Browning is a native Floridian. Browning served as Florida’s secretary of state under both Govs. Rick Scott and Charlie Crist. Before his appointment as secretary of state, Browning spent 27 years serving as Pasco County Supervisor of Elections.
“Pasco County families have a true friend in Gus Bilirakis,” Browning said. “He knows it is our most sacred responsibility to ensure our schools are as safe as possible so that our children can focus on learning and achieving at the highest levels possible. I’ve enjoyed working with Gus to make sure we have the tools we need to make our schools safer, and I am proud to endorse Congressman Gus Bilirakis. When we need his assistance on any issue, he’s always there for us.”
Bilirakis said, “Superintendent Browning is a dedicated public servant, a true friend, and I am honored to have his endorsement. Together, we will continue making our schools safer and, as Pasco County continues to grow, ensure our teachers have the tools they need to help our children be successful in school and in life.”
Bilirakis serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee and is vice-chair of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
Bilirakis said he works in a bipartisan manner to control federal spending, create jobs for middle class Americans, lower taxes, and seeks ways to make government smaller and more efficient. He has said he remains committed to strengthening homeland security, improving education, increasing access to quality health care, protecting veterans’ benefits, and ensuring the long-term viability of Social Security and Medicare.
Bilirakis and his wife, Eva, have raised their four boys, Michael, Teddy, Manuel and Nicholas in the district.
Bilirakis, a Republican, is facing a challenge from Democrat Chris Hunter and no-party candidate Angelika Purkis in the Nov. 6 general election for the District 12 seat. CD 12 encompasses Pasco County and parts of northern Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
