In Pasco, an Audio Sample Ballot for Upcoming Elections
The audio-enabled sample ballot is designed to help voters with disabilities, who are living abroad, or who are in the military.
PASCO COUNTY -An audio-enabled sample ballot will be available for Pasco voters during the 2016 election cycle.
The audio ballot, a valuable tool for voters with disabilities, voters in the military and Americans living abroad, will be accessible through the LiveBallot application which is hosted on the secure Microsoft Cloud for Government. The audio-enabled ballot is multilingual, and compatible with all major screen readers, tactile switches, closed captioning and sip and puff systems.
“Having balloting information readily available and easily accessible for voters with the challenge of distance or disabilities can only further empower them in exercising their right to vote,” Pasco elections supervisor Brian Corley said. “I’m excited about adding this valuable tool to our county.”
The audio-enabled sample ballot will be provided by Democracy Live, a Seattle, WA, company that says it is the leading provider of web-based balloting in the U.S.
“Over the years, our LiveBallot Accessible Sample Ballot has been deployed in hundreds of elections and has always been well received by the disability community,” Bryan Finney, president of Democracy Live, said. “We are excited for the voters of Pasco County to now have access to it.”
Democracy Live was founded in 2007 with the goal of simplifying the voting process for all U.S. citizens by providing innovative and accessible balloting tools that also reduce the cost of holding elections. Democracy Live has been awarded grants from the U.S. Elections Assistance, Microsoft, Intel and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to assist the 35 million disabled voters in the U.S.
