PALM HARBOR – A Palm Harbor entrepreneur is running for the Florida House of Representatives.

“I’m happy to announce my Democrat candidacy for [Florida] state representative District 65,” Toth tweeted Sunday (March 4). “I believe many Floridians have been continually disappointed by the Florida state Legislature. I’m hopeful people will speak out by voting for me and show there is ‘a Better Way Forward.'”

Toth said he has a five-point platform:

  • I support and will vote for laws banning assault weapons and for stricter background checks.
  • I will support and vote for all laws supporting women’s equality.
  • I am against offshore drilling and anything that is a detriment to Florida’s environment.
  • I support that every citizen in our state deserves access to affordable health care.
  • I support and will vote to make sure our public schools are adequately funded and teachers fairly paid.

Toth, a Palm Harbor resident, is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was president and CEO of PBM Office Products, a company he built from scratch into one of the biggest office products distributors in Ohio. Toth sold PBM to Office Depot in 1995. He is president and owner of Captain Al’s Waterfront Bar & Restaurant. He is married and has three children.

He is challenging Republican Chris Sprowls in the HD 65 race. HD 65 covers the north Pinellas cities and communities of Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, Dunedin and East Lake. It includes a portion of Clearwater.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
