Kimberly Overman is running for the District 7 seat on the Hillsborough County Commission.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Kimberly Overman, a candidate for the District 7 seat on the Hillsborough County Commission, has scheduled a meet and greet fundraiser.

Overman, a resident of Seminole Heights, is a certified financial planner, originally from New York, who moved here in 1984 from Washington, DC. She operates an investment advisory firm, the Financial Well; a co-working space, the Heights Exchange; and is the outgoing president of the Heights Urban Core Chamber.

She is a member of the citizen advisory committee to the Metropolitan Planning Organization. She has served on both city of Tampa and Hillsborough County advisory boards, including the Hillsborough County Housing Finance Authority and the citizen advisory committee of Budget and Finance for the city of Tampa.

Overman said she had been thinking for some time about running for the commission because of her interest in transportation and land use issues. But, she said, “The icing on the cake was the lack of leadership that was confirmed over the issue of the Confederate war memorial. We need leadership that is willing to govern for its citizens. When survey findings indicate that our failure to address our transportation challenges is lack of political will, it’s time for a change.”

Overman is running for the District 7 seat on the Hillsborough Commission, which is voted on countywide. It is currently held by Republican Al Higginbotham.

Overman is one of four Democrats running for the seat. The others are Sky U. White, Corey L. Reynolds and Charles Davis III. Republicans running for the seat are Sandra L. Murman and Cherie L. Denham.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
