Nurse Endorses Kriseman
Outgoing City Councilmember Karl Nurse has endorsed Rick Kriseman in his bid for reelection as St. Petersburg’s mayor.
ST. PETERSBURG – Councilmember Karl Nurse today (July 21) endorsed Mayor Rick Kriseman for re-election.
Nurse joins Councilmembers Darden Rice, Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, Amy Foster and Charlie Gerdes in their support of Kriseman. That makes a majority of the eight-member council backing Krsieman for a second term. Nurse, who is terming out of the District 6 seat, has served on the St. Petersburg City Council since 2008.
“Rick Kriseman has been a champion and a partner in fighting for our neighborhoods” Nurse said. “Under Mayor Kriseman, crime is down and a record number of homes have been renovated. St. Pete should join me in voting for Mayor Kriseman for another four years so we can continue building on our progress and keep St. Pete on the path of renewal. St. Pete has come too far to go back.”
Kriseman said, “Neighborhood revitalization has been the hallmark of Karl Nurse’s public service and a priority of my administration, so I’m especially proud to receive his endorsement. By lowering crime and focusing on expanding opportunity for all residents, our neighborhoods are stronger than when I first took office. We still have more work to do. As mayor, I’ll never stop fighting for progress for all neighborhoods in our city.”
Kriseman is one of six candidates running for mayor. The others are former Mayor Rick Baker, Paul Congemi, Jesse Nevel, Anthony Cates and Theresa Lassiter. A seventh candidate, Ernisa Barnwell, was disqualified after she failed to pay the filing fee, according to city officials.
The St. Petersburg mayor serves four years and earns $180,895 a year.
The primary is Aug. 29. If no candidate gets at least 50 percent plus one vote, the two top votegetters will advance to the Nov. 7 General Election.
