Wengay Newton is running for reelection to Florida House District 70.

ST. PETERSBURG – State Rep. Wengay Newton, D-St. Petersburg, has scheduled a town hall meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 28.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at the Enoch Davis Recreation Center, 1111 18th Ave. S in St. Petersburg.

Newton, who represents District 70 in the Florida House of Representatives, is running for reelection. District 70 covers portions of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties.

“I’m running for re-election to the Florida House because I want to continue being a champion on issues of importance for the people in District 70,” Newton said. “I believe in people, over the politicians. I wants to continue serving as your voice in Tallahassee.”

Newton is a St. Petersburg native who served eight years on the St. Petersburg City Council which he left because of term limits. He then ran for the Florida House. He is seeking his second term in the house.

He is facing two opponents in the Aug. 28 Democratic primary – Keisha Ann Bell and Vito Sheeley.
