U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist is running for reelection in south and mid-Pinellas County.

ST. PETERSBURG – U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist was just given the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction for standing up for gun violence prevention and recognizing gun safety.

“The real credit needs to go to moms and citizens all over our country standing up to special interests to get common sense gun reform passed,”Crist said. “It’s been the activism of everyday people that has moved the ball forward — now we just need to get it done in Congress. I’m honored and privileged to stand side by side with gun reform advocates.”

After the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, then-Gov. Crist became a voice for common sense gun reform, calling the tragedy a “wake up call” to action and reform.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a grass roots movement of Americans fighting for new and stronger solutions to lax gun laws and loopholes. Since its inception after the tragedy at Sandy Hook School, Moms Demand Action has established a chapter in every state of the country and, along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Everytown Survivor Network, is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with more than 4 million supporters.

Crist is running for reelection to the U.S. House District 13 seat. CD 13 includes south and mid-Pinellas County.

Crist is the only Democrat running for the seat. Republicans George Buck and Brad Sostack have also qualified for the seat.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
