Lawrence McClure defeated three other candidates to win the House District 58 seat.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Republican Lawrence McClure easily won Tuesday’s (Dec. 19) special election to fill the Florida House District 58 seat.

With all precincts as well as early voting and vote by mail ballots counted, McClure got 7,592 (54.5 percent) of the votes. Democrat Jose Vazquez received 4,715 (33.8 percent) votes; Libertarian Bryan Zemina, 443 (3.2 percent); and Ahmad Hussam Saadaldin, who has no party affiliation, 1,188 (8.5 percent).

These unofficial results do not include provisional and 10-day overseas ballots.The Canvassing Board will meet Thursday (Dec. 21) to review provisional ballots and on Dec. 29 to certify the official results of the election.

McClure was born in Hillsborough County and played soccer and football for H. B. Plant High School. He began his career as a summer intern at Tampa-based Streamline Environmental. He is now a partner working with local companies to address environmental mitigation, cleanup and petroleum tank removal.

He campaigned as a conservative Republican, endorsed by the NRA and the Hillsborough Farm Bureau, running to bring conservative principles to Florida.
