Les, Gwen Miller Endorse Gillum for Governor
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is running for Florida governor.
TALLAHASSEE – Hillsborough County Commissioner Les Miller and his wife, Gwen, the former chair of the Tampa City Council, have endorsed Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum who’s running to be Florida’s next governor.
“We are proud to endorse Mayor Andrew Gillum as the next Governor of Florida. His bold, ambitious plans for Florida are just what our communities need. He will help transform Florida into a state where working people can finally make ends meet, where every Floridian can get quality and affordable health care, and every child can get a high-quality public education,” the Millers said.
“Mayor Gillum’s campaign represents a historic moment in Florida’s history as he becomes the first African-American Democrat to qualify for the ballot for governor. We are deeply moved by what this achievement means not just for us, but for our children, grandchildren, and all those who have seen this state change over the past decades. In August the choice is clear: Andrew Gillum will be a governor of the people, and for the people.”
Gillum said, “It is a deep honor to have the endorsement of Les and Gwen Miller in this race. They’ve dedicated their lives to lifting up not just those in the Hillsborough community, but people from all walks of life across this state. They are tried and true public servants, and their support means a great deal to this state, my family, and me. I look forward to campaigning alongside them this summer and fall.”
Gillum said he is running to build Florida into a state that works for everyone and to confront the challenges that officials have shrunk from over the past 20 years: rebuilding the state’s economy, revitalizing public education, protecting and expanding healthcare access, and addressing the climate change crisis with a clean energy economy.
Gillum is one of seven Democrats running for governor. The primary election is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6. Voters have until July 30 to register to vote or to change their party affiliation to vote in the primary.
