Laufer Snags Endorsements from NOW, Planned Parenthood in House Race
Sally Laufer is running for the District 65 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.
Laufer, a long- time supporter of women’s rights, reproductive and otherwise, said she is humbled by the endorsements from the groups’ political action committees.
“I am a mother of three daughters so women’s issues have always been important to me,” Laufer said. “Women and mothers are the primary caretakers of the next generation. They’re interactions decide a great deal about the future of a child’s health and well being. As a community and a nation, securing women’s rights, reproductive and otherwise are integral to our future as a society.”
Both organizations affiliated with these PACs have been credited with major advances in women’s rights and health, Laufer’s campaign said. In 1994, NOW is credited with helping to pass the Violence Against Women Act and Planned Parenthood provides healthcare for one in five American women sometime in their lifetime.
“I am pro-choice and a big part of that is family planning. These organizations have taken a lot of attacks for supporting a woman’s right to choose, but if you believe in reducing abortions, then you should support strong family planning,” Laufer said. “Planned Parenthood and NOW has been on the forefront of that fight.”
Laufer, a Democrat, is running for the HD 65 seat held by Republican Chris Sprowls, who is seeking reelection. HD 65 includes Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, Crystal Beach and Ozona.
Laufer has no Democratic opponents, so the HD 65 race will not be on the Aug. 28 ballot. It will be on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
