Labor Council Endorses Driscoll

Gina Driscoll is running for the District 6 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

ST. PETERSBURG – Gina Driscoll announced today (Oct. 25) that she has received the endorsement of the West Central Florida Labor Council, a local labor council under the umbrella of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.

“The West Central Florida Labor Council is proud to endorse Gina Driscoll for St. Petersburg City Council,” WCFLC Executive Director Cheryl Schroeder said. “We know that we can count on Gina to stand up for working families and that she will fight for the social and economic issues that are important to us.”

Driscoll said, “I’m humbled to have received the support of the West Central Florida Labor Council. Unions have made my life and the lives of millions of workers better because they stand up for our dignity and our safety. I look forward to working with our unions to strengthen our city’s apprenticeship program and create more career opportunities when I’m elected to city council.”

Driscoll has also been endorsed by Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch, Pinellas County School Board Member Rene Flowers, City Council Chair Darden Rice, City Council Vice Chair Lisa Wheeler-Bowman, Councilman Charlie Gerdes, and Councilman Karl Nurse as well as the SEIU Florida Public Services Union.

Driscoll is running for the District 6 seat, which is currently held by Karl Nurse who is terming out. She is opposed by Justin Bean, another first-time candidate in the Nov. 7 general election. Candidates are running citywide for numbered seats. Mail ballots are being voted and early voting begins Saturday (Oct. 28).
