Chris Hunter is running for the Florida District 12 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Chris Hunter, who earlier this month announced his candidacy for U.S. House District 12, has scheduled a pair of fundraisers.

The first meet-and-greet fundraiser is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 18) at Bizou Brasserie Lounge, Le Méridien Hotel, 601 N Florida Ave. in Tampa. The second is planned for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Green Bench Brewing Co., 1133 Baum Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

Hunter, a former federal prosecutor and FBI agent, announced Jan. 2 that he is running for Congress in the 12th congressional district in Florida. Hunter, a Democrat, is calling for renewal of American values and service to one another and our country.

“American service is an enduring promise that crosses generations, connects us to one another, and inspires hope,” Hunter stated. “All of us are looking forward to renewing the American promise of service to our country and to one another.”

On Sept. 11, 2001, Hunter was serving as a state prosecutor fighting street crime. Two weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hunter applied to the FBI and went on to serve as an FBI agent. He focused on counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and international fugitive investigations.

Hunter served most recently as a senior prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice on our nation’s health care fraud strike force. He led the successful investigation and prosecution of the largest pharmacy fraud scheme in the Tampa Bay area. His work investigating and prosecuting criminals who steal from Medicare and TRICARE, the military’s health care program, shut down scammers and con artists throughout the region.

Hunter and his family live in Trinity. He and his wife have a son and three daughters who attend public school in Pasco County. He is the son of a school teacher and U.S. Marine. Hunter teaches at Stetson University College of Law and the University of Tampa. He is the author of a children’s book entitled Seagrass Surprise.

The 12th District Congressional Seat is held by Republican Gus Bilirakis. The district includes includes all of Pasco and northern parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. At least four other Democrats have said they are running for the seat: Stephen Perenich, Robert Tager, Mathew Thomas and Kimberly Walker.

The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
