Forum | Debate | Panel

Six people are running for three seats on the Safety Harbor City Commission.

SAFETY HARBOR – A forum is scheduled to allow voters to meet and hear from the six candidates running for the Safety Harbor City Commission.

The forum is 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 1) in the Baranoff Ballroom at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa, 105 N Bayshore Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Three seats on the five-member commission are up for grabs. Incumbent Scott Long is facing a challenge from Nancy J. Besore for Seat 1. Incumbent Cliff Merz is opposed by Spencer Bell for Seat 2. And the Seat 3 race pits incumbent Andy Zodrow against Damon Lister.

Safety Harbor has a commission-manager form of government in which a five member commission – a mayor and four commissioners – set policy and pass a budget while a professional manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the city. Commissioners serve three-year terms.

The nonpartisan election is March 13. The deadline to register to vote in the Safety Harbor election is Feb. 12. Online voter registration is available.
