Haselden Schedules Information Event

Barb Haselden | Pinellas County Commission | Politics

The event is designed to introduce voters to Barb Haselden and her platform. Haselden is running for the Pinellas County Commission.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Barb Haselden, a Republican candidate for the Pinellas County Commission, has scheduled a getting-to-know you session.

The event is designed to give voters a chance to meet Haselden and learn about her platform, which includes term limits for county commissioners, upgrading and increasing capacity for the county’s stormwater/sewage systems, and undergrounding of electrical and communication lines.

The meet and greet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Haselden’s residence, 1043 31st Ter. NE in St. Petersburg.

The Pinellas County Commission consists of seven members who set policy, adopt ordinances (local laws), approve the county budget and set some property tax rates, as well as establish the requirements for the departments under its control. The commission governs all unincorporated areas of the county directly; municipalities may call upon the county for specialized services. Commissioners generally meet twice a month in regular meetings and hold workshops as needed. Members also serve on other area boards.

Three commission members live in specific residential districts but are elected countywide by all of the voters countywide. Four are elected from single-member districts with only the voters within each specific district electing the commissioner from that district.

Haselden is running in District 6, a single member district that includes northeast St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Seminole, a portion of the unincorporated Lealman area and the south beaches including Redington Shores, Redington Beach, North Redington Beach, Madeira Beach, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach and Tierra Verde. The seat is currently held by Republican John Morroni, who is retiring.

Two other Republicans, state Reps. Larry Ahern and Kathleen Peters have also announced they are running for District 6. No Democrats have announced. The primary is Aug. 28. The general election is Nov. 6.
