Barclay Harless is running for the District 2 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

ST. PETERSBURG – The Friends of Barclay Harless are hosting a meet-and-greet happy hour to provide voters an opportunity to get to know the candidate for the District 2 seat on the St. Petersburg City Council.

Harless is running for the seat held by Jim Kennedy, who is terming out. Kennedy has endorsed Harless.

The meet and greet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today (May 25) at the Oyster Bar, 249 Central Ave.

Harless, 31, is a fifth-generation Floridian, who has been involved in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

After graduating from the University of South Florida in 2010 with a bachelor’s in history, he went to work in the Midtown area of St. Petersburg for State Rep.Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, during the height of the economic recession. He has served on the board of R’Club Childcare, and the Louise Graham Center for Regeneration for three and half years. Harless has been the state policy chair for the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and has served on grant boards for the Suncoast United Way. He was appointed to the Pinellas Charter Review Commission in 2015 and sponsored a county amendment that stipulated citizen-drawn redistricting for the county commission.

Harless is running against Brandi Gabbard. Qualifying for the St. Petersburg election begins at 8 a.m. June 8 and ends 5 p.m. June 23. The primary is Aug. 29 and the general election is Nov. 7. The election is nonpartisan.
