Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is running for the Democratic nomination for Florida governor.

TAMPA/ST. PETERSBURG – Andrew Gillum, who is running for the Democratic nomination to be governor, has scheduled two Tampa Bay area campaign stops today (Aug. 23).

Gillum is scheduled to hold a meet and greet with seniors at 4 p.m. at Angels Senior Living Hacienda Villas, 1510 E Palm Ave, Tampa. Gillum is also scheduled to attend an early vote BBQ cookout at 5:45 p.m. at the NFL YET Center, 3310 E Lake Ave. in Tampa.

He will then cross the bay for what’s billed as a “Rap & Mingle with Gillum in the ‘Burg with special guest Winky Wright, Hall of Fame Boxer.” The rap and mingle is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.at 2140 34th St. S, St. Petersburg.

Tallahassee Mayor Gillum is considered to be one of the three front runners in the Democratic race. Gilllum’s campaign said he has seen a surge in the polls since being endorsed by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Gillum was in Tampa last week for a rally with Sanders.

Early voting and voting by mail are underway. The election is Tuesday (Aug. 28).
