Pat Gerard, a former Largo mayor, says she is running for a second term on the Pinellas County Commission.

PINELLAS COUNTY – Pat Gerard today (June 5) announced her candidacy for reelection to the Pinellas County Commission.

Gerard, a Democrat, holds the District 2 at-large seat, which is voted on countywide. Gerard was elected to the seat in 2014. Before that, she served as the first woman mayor of Largo for eight years. The election is November 2018.

“I’m excited about the progress we’ve made for Pinellas County,” Gerard said. “I want to continue that work to make our beautiful community the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Gerard said she has pushed to make the county government work in cooperation with cities, a major promise of her 2014 campaign. She’s also championed efforts to make county facilities and offices run more efficiently, to increase the availability of affordable housing and sustainable jobs, and to make government more accessible to citizens and businesses.

“In three short years, our county has begun to really work as one team pulling in the same direction, but I know we can still do more,” Gerard said. “I am running for reelection because it’s been an honor to serve the residents of Pinellas County and I want to continue working with them to build on our successes.”

Gerard was elected mayor of Largo in 2006, then reelected in 2009 and 2012. Before that, she served as a Largo commissioner for two terms, first elected in 2000. She has more than 38 years of experience working in human services – as a victim’s advocate for the Largo Police Department, director of the Spouse Abuse Shelter of Religious Community Services, and as chief operating officer and chief grants officer of Family Resources, which provides crisis counseling, safe shelter and respite for runaway and homeless teens, and services to children, youths and families.
