PINELLAS COUNTY – A fundraiser has been set for Barb Haselden, who is running for the District 6 seat on the Pinellas County Commission.

The fundraiser, hosted by Kate Kelly and Rich Perfidio, is billed as an “evening of wine, cheese, and wisdom.” The event will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (May 5) at 121 87th Ave. N in St. Petersburg. For information or to RSVP for the event, call Perfidio at (407) 978-2368.

Haselden said that, if elected, she would push for term limits for county commissioners. She would also seek to end the “commitment to  progressive public policy” as stated in the Pinellas County mission statement and replace it with “good public policy” instead.

Haselden also promises to lead efforts for hurricane hardening of infrastructure for Pinellas County by making storm water, sewage and power grid systems, including burying more power lines county ide, a top countywide priority.

Haselden is one of three Republicans running for the District 6 seat, a single member district currently held by Republican John Morroni, who is not running for reelection. The other two candidates are state Reps. Kathleen Peters and Larry Ahern.

The Pinellas commission has seven members. Three live in specific residential districts but are elected countywide by all of the voters countywide. Four are elected from single-member districts with only the voters within each specific district electing the commissioner from that district. Each voter votes for a commissioner from their single-member district and the at-large commissioners who are on the ballot.

District 6 includes a section of northeast St. Petersburg, Pinellas Park, Seminole, and the southern beach communities from Indian Shores south to St. Pete Beach.

The primary is Aug. 28 and the general election is Nov. 6.
