Linda Jack is running for the District 36 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

NEW PORT RICHEY – Linda Jack, who is running for Florida House District 36, has scored endorsements from the Florida Planned Parenthood political action committee and the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida.

Jack announced the endorsements today (July 9) in an email to supporters, saying, “the Florida Planned Parenthood PAC has endorsed me as a strong supporter and dedicated advocate for family planning and access to safe and legal abortion.

“I’ve also been endorsed by the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida, receiving this nice note from their President Phil Giorno, a Vietnam veteran and the vice chair of the Florida Democratic Party: “I understand the commitment running for office commands. My best wishes that your campaign meets with great success… I appreciate your commitment to veterans and the people of Florida.’ Our local VFW welcomed me on the Fourth of July and I look forward to working on behalf of our veterans statewide.”

Jack also reported on answers she received when she asked respondents to prioritize their concerns.

“The clear winner was ‘Protecting a Woman’s Right to Choose,’ followed by ‘Access to Affordable, Quality Healthcare,’ and ‘Defeating Republicans in 2018,'” Jack wrote. “These days it is more important than ever that we get pro-choice candidates elected to our Florida legislature. We need to ‘flip’ District 36 and get me to Tallahassee to fight for our reproductive rights, Medicaid expansion, and so much more!”

Jack is a native Floridian who lost both parents at an early age. She put herself through college and launched a music career, traveling throughout the U.S. and internationally playing country, blues, rock and pop. She has also taught music.

She went back to college when she was 40 and became a veterinarian, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

If elected, Jack said she would be a champion for public schools and fight for commonsense reforms to reduce “rampant gun violence” in Florida and will seek equality for LGBT Floridians.

Jack, a Democrat, is running for the HD 36 seat held by Republican Amber Mariano, who is running for reelection.

HD 36 includes the western portion of Pasco County from Pinellas County to Hernando County. It includes Hudson, Bayonet Point, Jasmine Estates, Port Richey, New Port Richey East, Elfers, Beacon Square, Key Vista and Holiday.

The general election is Nov. 6. There is no primary for the HD 36 race.
