Debra Bellanti is running for the District 60 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

TAMPA – The Florida AFL-CIO has endorsed Debra Bellanti in the race for House District 60.

The Florida AFL-CIO represents more than 500 local labor unions, 10 councils, and more than one million union members, retirees, and their families in the state.

“Debra Bellanti shares our concerns about the direction of the Florida Legislature,” said Cheryl Schroeder, with the West Central Florida Labor Council. “The current representative votes against issues that working families care about such as a quality public education system and a worker’s compensation program that assists workers.  We are proud to endorse Debra Bellanti as someone who will listen to and act on the needs of her district.”

Bellanti said, “I am proud and grateful for the support of the Florida AFL-CIO in my run for the Florida State House of Representative, District 60. I stand with our unions and I promise to fight for working families and give them the voice they have long been lacking in our Florida Legislature.”

Bellanti, a native Floridian, has lived and worked in the district for more than 26 years. She is a small business owner and active in her community, having served on many nonprofit boards and with volunteer organizations. Bellanti said she is a proud supporter of public schools and is active in her daughter’s school’s PTA.

Bellanti has also been endorsed by the Florida Education Association, the Hillsborough County Classroom Teachers Association, Ironworkers Local 397, Working Families Party, Hillsborough County Commissioner Pat Kemp, former Tampa Mayor Sandy Freedman, social activist and organizer Heather Booth, and many others. Bellanti has also been named a Gun Sense Candidate of Distinction by Moms Demand Action.

HD 60 encompasses the majority of South Tampa, includes Apollo Beach and parts of Ruskin. The seat is currently held by Republican Jackie Toledo, who is running for reelection. Bellanti is a Democrat.

The general election is Nov. 6. There is no primary for HD 60.
