Firefighters Endorse Baker in St. Pete Mayor’s Race
Former Mayor Rick Baker is running to get his old job back.
ST. PETERSBURG – The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 747 announced its endorsement of Rick Baker for Mayor of St. Petersburg today (July 14).
“The members of St Petersburg Association of Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 747, have enjoyed a long history and positive working relationship with Mayor Baker,” said Rick Pauley, president of the St Petersburg Association of Fire Fighters. “Rick Baker has demonstrated his support for public safety by supporting firefighter issues in the past, adding additional firefighter positions, and ensuring that our members can retire with dignity. We believe St. Petersburg is safer with Rick Baker as Mayor.”
The St. Petersburg Association of Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 747, represents 417 fire fighters and paramedics who currently serve and protect the people of St. Petersburg, Lealman, and South Pasadena.
Baker said, “Public safety is the number one job for the Mayor of any city. I am humbled that the members of St. Petersburg Association of Fire Fighters IAFF Local 747 have put their faith and trust in me, and am honored to receive their endorsement.”
Baker is one of six candidates running for St. Petersburg mayor. The others are incumbent Mayor Rick Kriseman and challengers Paul Congemi, Jesse Nevel, Anthony Cates and Theresa Lassiter.
The St. Petersburg mayor serves four years and earns $180,895 a year.
The primary is Aug. 29. If no candidate gets at least 50 percent plus one vote, the two top votegetters will advance to the Nov. 7 General Election.
