Election Qualifying Opens in Treasure Island

The mayor and two commission members are up for reelection.

TREASURE ISLAND – Qualifying opens at noon Monday (Dec. 18) for those interested in running for the Treasure Island City Commission.

The mayor’s office and the District 2 and 4 seats on the city commission are up for grabs. The mayor’s seat is currently held by Robert Minning. The Districts 2 and 4 seats are held by Larry Lunn and Ken Keys, respectively. Closing date for qualifying is noon Jan. 3.

Treasure Island has a commission-manager form of government in which a five-member commission consisting of a mayor and four council members set policy and pass a budget while a city manager oversees the daily activities of the town.

The mayor serves a three-year term. Council members serve two-year terms. The nonpartisan election is March 13.
