ST. PETERSBURG – Darden Rice is kicking off her reelection campaign at an event tonight (Sept. 19).

The kickoff is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Flying Boat Brewing, 1776 11th Ave. N in St. Petersburg. Guests are asked to bring nonperishable food items for the St. Petersburg Free Clinic.

Rice is seeking her second term as the District 4 representative on the St. Petersburg City Council. She earned her bachelor’s in American studies from Eckerd College in 2000, graduating with distinction. She also completed the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Leadership Program in July 2014.

Rice is spearheading a proposal to limit outside political money in St. Petersburg’s elections.

She is facing a challenge from political newcomer Jerick Johnston for the District 4 seat. District 4 includes portions of central and north St. Petersburg including the Crescent Lakes, Meadowlawn, Euclid Heights and Euclid-St. Paul’s neighborhoods.
