ClearPAC Endorses Allbritton, Hamilton for Clearwater Council

ClearPAC is the political committee of the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce.

CLEARWATER – David Allbritton and Hoyt Hamilton have scored the endorsement of ClearPAC in their run for city council.

ClearPAC, the political action committee affiliated with the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the chamber’s board of directors said they recognize the importance of elected officials to the continuing success of local business.The endorsements came after intevriews with all candidates.

“Mr. Allbritton has demonstrated his commitment to the future of Clearwater by his long history of service on various boards and committees, and is dedicated to moving Clearwater forward,” Ray Ferrara, Chairman of ClearPAC, said.

He added,”Mr. Hamilton’s outstanding record of public service to this city and his commitment to new business development in downtown Clearwater while keeping a historical perspective will serve our citizens well.”

The committee also noted that both candidates fully support the Imagine Clearwater project, which was approved by an overwhelming majority of Clearwater voters in last November’s referendum.

“A 75-25 split is more than just a mandate,” Ferrara said. “This needs to happen. Our citizens are tired of waiting. We are pleased that both candidates recognize this, and are committed to ensuring that the Imagine Clearwater project gets done.”

Established in 1922, the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce set out with the vision to be the premier Voice of Business in the Clearwater region. Representing more than 1,000 member businesses, the organization is one of the largest chambers in the Bay area and has become a large and powerful voice for its members through its ability to partner with other agencies and advocate on behalf of business and its members. CRCC’s mission is to enhance the business environment and promote economic health and growth in the Clearwater region.

Albritton is running for Seat 4 on the Clearwater council. The seat is currently held by Bill Jonson who is terming out of office. He is facing Tom Keller.

Hamilton is running for reelection to Seat 5 on the council. He is being challenged by John Funk.

Both have been endorsed by the Pinellas Realtor® Organization.

Clearwater is governed by a council-manager form of government. The Clearwater City Council is comprised of the mayor and four councilmembers, who each serve four-year terms. The council is the legislative and policymaking body of the city, responsible for approving the budget and determining the ad valorem tax rate on all real and personal property within the corporate limits of the city.

In addition, the council members evaluate the job performance of the city manager and the city attorney, attend city council meetings, special workshops/meetings, schedule and attend community meetings to address various topics and initiatives, serve as the city liaison for various areawide boards, and represent the city at ribbon cuttings, opening day festivities, and organizational welcomes and events.

Council members are paid about $21,892 a year. They are elected at large in a non-partisan election. The election is March 13. The last day to register to vote in that election is Feb. 12. Voters can register online at registertovoteflorida.gov.
